Christmas Jazz Newsletter – December 2017

Dear Jazzers

The season of Scant Applause (groan) is upon us once more, time to get out the funny hats and the mistletoe.
The Christmas party is next Tuesday (19th December) and we welcome back, as a special guest, Big John Lee on tenor sax who will be augmenting Bill’s Dixie Demons. I am particularly looking forward to the musical cut and thrust from Richard and Big John.
We will be providing the usual Christmas comestibles for this festive occasion and, among other attractions on the night, Jolly Jim will make an appearance ably assisted by Richard’s right hand – gread and gutter anyone?
Don’t forget in the New Year on the 9th January we have the return of the Nevada Street Four. Tickets are on sale behind the bar. Make sure you get your’s – this is the perfect band to banish those post-Christmas blues. I will be giving a detailed description of the band in the next newsletter.
Happy Jazzmas to one and all.

Mike Deighan

The Quiz is for teams of up to 8, costs £3 per head and includes nibbles, a raffle and prizes etc. Put your team name on the list on the Club Notice Board and pay on the night. We promise you a night never to be forgotten.
The following day, Sunday 17th December, we will be holding our Christmas Draw from 5pm. Tickets are on sale behind the bar at £1 per strip of tickets.
Tuesday 19th December is our Jazz Club Christmas Party from 8:00pm featuring Binky’s Festive Dixie Demons with special guest ‘Big John’ Lee. This is another night that is extremely popular and is not to be missed.
We start the Christmas weekend on Friday 22nd December as we welcome the return of popular local band iWitness, from 8:30pm until late. Entry is free and all members and guests are welcome.
Finally, as usual on New Years Eve, we will be having a disco from 9pm until late, entry will be by ticket only (available free at the bar) and there will be strictly no entry after 12:45am.

Pam Martiny

Sadly I have to inform you that I have been notified of the death on 21st November, after a long illness, of one of our Life Members, Pam Martiny. Pam was a popular and long-time member of the Club and will be sadly missed.

Pam’s funeral will be held at St Alban’s Church, Tilford Road, Hindhead at 1pm on Monday 11th December and afterwards at the ‘Bel and the Dragon’ in Jumps Road, Tilford (formerly known as the ‘Pride of the Valley’).

All that knew her are welcome to attend.
