Jazz Newsletter November 2017 and Binkies Dixie Demons 28th November

Dear jazzers,

The dictionary definition of orchestra is “a group of instrumentalists especially one combining strings, woodwind, brass and percussion”. Well it doesn’t specify as to the number of musicians but on Tuesday the 14th Grayshott was treated to a night of musical variety with just three of them in the shape of The FB Pocket Orchestra. In Jenny Russell we have an outstanding singer with a voice especially suited to Blues and Ragtime as well as providing hot clarinet on tunes of that ilk. Ollie Corbin (notice the i ) is the musical catalyst with his playing of the cornet, tuba, accordion, and beat-box. Musical director Paul Stevenson unpins his immaculate guitar playing with understated and informative humorous announcements about the Band’s repertoire. Outstanding moment – the orchestra’s arrangement of Saint-Saens Dance Macabre.
Thanks to everyone who turned out to support this superb concert and we hope for more of the same on the 9th January when the club will be presenting The Nevada Street Four in concert. Tickets will be on sale at the next Jazz evening – Tuesday 28th November.
